Spruite Applied For A Patent For Wire EDM Device For Metal Workpieces To Prevent Parts From Falling And Affecting Processing Quality.

Spruite applied for a patent for wire EDM device for metal workpieces to prevent parts from falling and affecting processing quality.

Recently, the State Intellectual Property Office announced a new patent from Nantong, Jiangsu Province, which specifically solves two old problems in wire-cut EDM processing. One problem is that parts fall and damage things, and the other problem is that metal debris affects the processing quality. This technology was submitted for application in February 2026, bringing a more stable processing solution to the general equipment manufacturing industry.

Prevent parts from falling damage from the source

After processing a part, the part cut by traditional wire EDM often falls directly. The dropped part may be damaged by collision, and it is easy to get stuck in the working fluid if it falls into the working fluid. The new patent adds a limit ring structure to the workbench. When the part is cut and separated, the limit ring will temporarily hold it from below.

This limit ring is not just about catching the parts. It is also equipped with a guide plate for EDM processing next to it. When the parts need to be removed, the guide plate will slowly move away, allowing the parts to slide along an oblique track to the designated collection area. There is no free fall in the whole process, and the parts will not collide. The processing accuracy and yield rate can be improved.

Debris in the working fluid has a new place to go

During EDM machining , the discharge behavior continues between the electrode wire and the workpiece, which will generate a large number of small metal debris. If these debris are mixed into the working fluid, they will easily adhere to the surface of the electrode wire, thus affecting the discharge stability and may even lead to wire breakage. The new patent places an impeller inside the limit cylinder, using the kinetic energy of the working fluid flow to promote the rotation of the impeller.

Once the impeller rotates, centrifugal force will be generated, and the debris with a larger proportion in the working fluid will be thrown towards the cylinder wall under the action of centrifugal force, and then discharged from the chip discharge hole on the side. The working fluid returned in this way is much cleaner, and debris will not easily adhere to the surface of the electrode wire. The smoothness of the processed surface and the life of the electrode wire can be guaranteed.

Multi-station continuous processing improves efficiency

The design of this device takes into account the conditions required for mass production. Positioning structures are placed on both sides of the top of the movable base facing forward and rearward, which can hold multiple workpieces with clamps at the same time. The wire walking mechanism and the moving mechanism are coordinated, so that the electrode wire can be switched between different stations for processing, and one piece of equipment can continuously cut multiple parts.

After the first part is cut, it is caught by the limit ring. At this time, the machine does not need to stop to wait for the part to be picked up. It can move directly to the next station and start processing. Operators only need to collect the completed parts during the processing gap. This design of EDM reduces the number of frequent opening and closing of the working area, and significantly increases the effective working time of the equipment.

This company in Nantong focuses on general equipment manufacturing

The information presented by Tianyancha shows that the applicant of this patent is located in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. It was founded in 2019 with a registered capital of 18.9 million yuan. The company is mainly engaged in general equipment manufacturing and has accumulated many technological achievements over the years. As of now, the company has 8 pieces of trademark information, 44 pieces of patent information, and 3 administrative licenses.

In terms of the number of patents, this company has invested a lot of energy in technology research and development. The 44 patents cover multiple directions such as equipment structure, processing methods and auxiliary systems. The wire EDM patent disclosed this time is a core part of their technical system and is specifically designed to improve common pain points in actual processing.

Guidance and chip removal systems work together

The guide mechanism mentioned in the patents divided into No. 1 and No. 2 is combined with the movable base and the fixed plate to form a complete motion control chain. The electrode wire sent out by the wire traveling mechanism is positioned by the guide mechanism, which can always maintain a stable discharge gap. The positioning mechanism is responsible for firmly fixing the workpiece on the movable base to prevent displacement during processing.

Not only is centrifugal separation used for chip removal, but also the structural design of the side holes allows the chips to be discharged in a timely manner. The working fluid circulation system is probably also equipped with a filtering device to further process the liquid containing chips discharged from the side holes and return the clean working fluid to the processing area. Such a multi-stage processing idea keeps the entire system stable during long-term operation.

Detailed optimization at the actual operational level

For operators in the workshop, Spirit has applied for a patent for a wire-cut electric discharge device for metal workpieces to prevent parts from falling and affecting the processing quality. This equipment reduces the complexity of manually picking up objects. In the past, when processing smaller parts, the parts fell into the working liquid pool, and the operator needed to use tools to fish it out. This not only delayed time, but also easily scratched the parts. Nowadays, in EDM , the parts are firmly caught and then slid into the collection box, making it easy and safe to take the objects.

The service life of the electrode wire is extended, thereby reducing the cost of consumables. In the EDM process, the electrode wire is a consumable item, and debris adhesion will cause local wear to increase. The new patent reduces debris adhesion, allowing the electrode wire to be used for a longer period of time before it needs to be replaced. For workshops that produce multiple shifts every day, the savings in consumables are considerable.

Do you think that in the actual production of wire EDM, it is more troublesome that parts fall and cause damage, or do debris affect the processing quality and become more troublesome? Welcome to share your own experience in the comment area, and give it a like so that more peers can see this new improvement measure.
